The North West Regional Champoinships 2014

A strong 7th place

So the band returned the contest stage after a successful performance at brass at the guild in Preston. The band worked very hard in the run up to Preston contest and knew the demands for the area would be just as much, if not more. The test piece for this year’s second section was Chaucer’s Tunes by Michael Ball. The piece suited the bands strengths and as rehearsals progressed towards the Area contest. Overall the band felt a little disappointed with the result but in a strong line up in the second section the band finished a creditable 7th out of 16.

However the day also saw the recognition of three Delph band members who, over the last 30 plus years have given a considerable commitment to the band. Lorraine Valentine, Keith Palmer and Dave Bamford between them have 130 years of service to the band. In modern banding terms this just doesn't happen, people move around bands and not many people can say they have only ever played for one band. They received a certificate from the North West Brass Band Association as well as their long service awards. Everyone connected with the band was delighted for them that their dedication had been recognised and long may it continue.

The band now look forward to a bit of a break before a joint concert with the Training and Youth band in April
