The Band

Delph Band was formed in 1850 and has had many ups and downs. In the early years the band led a fairly nomadic existence, wound up and reformed on several occasions. The playing standard of the band has been variable, but is now firmly established in the second section. Rehearsal rooms have included printers shop, the bell inn and Wesleyan chapel with a proviso the band play when required. The band used Delph mechanics institute before move 1954 to its headquarters in Lawton square. Many contest successes including North West champions, Manchester District champions, Pontins and Butlins victories, the First Saddleworth Band to have won the National Championship of Great Britain. The Band has been involved with several prestigious engagements including; Commonwealth games, a Concert for Prince Edward and TV appearances in Brassed Off and Coronation Street. The band currently has a thriving youth band to secure future of the main band.
